How XP, levels and streaks work

Dongu awards XP for tasks, habits, focus sessions, and wellness logs. Learn how levels, streaks, achievements, and daily caps work.

Dongu layers a light game on top of your day: XP for completed actions, levels, streaks, achievements, and weekly challenges. None of it changes how tasks work. It exists to make consistency visible — and to power the friendly competition on the friends leaderboard. The gamification overview shows where all of this appears in the app.

How you earn XP

Action XP
Complete a task 10
Check a habit 5
Complete a focus session 15
Log wellness (once per day) 5
Unlock an achievement 25 bonus

Wellness XP pays once per day no matter how often you edit the daily wellness log. The achievement bonus is added on top of the action that unlocked it.

Levels

XP accumulates into levels, and each level requires progressively more XP than the last. Early levels arrive quickly; later ones take sustained use. Levels are a progress marker — they do not lock or unlock features.

Streaks

A streak counts consecutive days with at least one XP-earning action. Completing a task, checking a habit, finishing a focus session, or logging wellness all qualify. One action per day is enough to keep the streak alive; miss a full day and the streak resets.

Achievements and weekly challenges

Dongu has 13 achievements to unlock. Each unlock adds a 25 XP bonus on top of the action that triggered it.

Weekly challenges run Monday to Sunday and start over each week, so there is always a short-term goal running alongside your long-term levels.

Daily fairness caps

XP from each action type is capped per day. For example, task-completion XP stops paying after 30 completed tasks in a single day. The action itself keeps working — tasks still complete, habits still check — it just stops paying XP until the next day. The caps exist to keep leaderboards fair.

Days are UTC days

Dongu counts "today" as a UTC calendar day. Streaks, daily caps, once-per-day wellness XP, and the Monday-to-Sunday challenge week all follow UTC, not your local clock. If you live far from UTC, the day rolls over at an unusual local time — possibly in your morning or evening. This is a documented limitation worth knowing before you chase a long streak.
