Compete in focus rooms

Create a focus room in Dongu, invite accepted friends, and compare focus minutes on a live weekly or monthly ranking of members.

A focus room turns focus time into a friendly competition. You create a room, invite friends, and every member's completed focus sessions feed a live ranking by focus minutes. There is no extra tracking and no manual reporting — you just run your sessions.

Create a room

Create a focus room and give it a name. A room is a small thing: a name, a member list, and a ranking. You own the rooms you create and choose who is in them.

Invite accepted friends

Rooms are built on Dongu's friend system, so only accepted friends can be invited. If the person you want is not on your friends list yet, send a friend request first — requests go to the exact email address the person registered with. The full flow is covered in add friends and climb the leaderboard.

Weekly and monthly rankings

Every room ranks its members by focus minutes, and you can view the ranking two ways:

  • Weekly — minutes in the current week.
  • Monthly — minutes in the current month.

The ranking is live: when a member completes a session, their minutes count. A new week or month starts everyone at zero again, so no lead is permanent and a slow start is never fatal.

Where the minutes come from

Minutes come from completed focus sessions — the same pomodoro-style sessions described in run focus sessions, with the durations you configured in Settings. Complete a session and it counts toward every room you are in; abandon one and it does not count at all. Each completed session also earns 15 XP, independent of any room.

Making a room work

A few patterns help a room stay useful:

  • Keep the stakes light. The ranking measures minutes, nothing else.
  • Agree on a cadence. Compare standings at the end of the week, when the weekly ranking is complete.
  • Use the monthly view for the long game. One bad week disappears into a decent month.

Steady daily sessions accumulate more minutes than occasional marathons, so rooms quietly reward showing up regularly — the same behavior that makes focused work a habit in the first place. Focus rooms are part of Dongu's wider focus feature.
